Winnetka, Ill. - The Performing Arts Division at New Trier High School is proud to present Kinesis , its student dance company, in concert on Feb. 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. in the Cornog Auditorium at the Northfield Campus. Tickets are available at the door and online at .

Kinesis provides an opportunity for junior and senior dancers to choreograph and perform their own work under the guidance of artistic directors and Dance Division faculty Christopher Rutt and Johannah Wininsky.

The 2017-2018 Kinesis Ensemble is Kaitlin Bauer, Nicole Blesi, Emma Bliwas, Amy Boyle, Anna Caffarelli, Julia Damen, Tori Edington, Tatum Ewing, Izzy James, Carli Kanter, Jenna Katlin, Jamie Kohr, Caroline Lockwood, Katie Lorenz, Merryn McKeough, Sarah Myers, Louisa Perrin, Bess Perry, Kara Philoon, Joanna Raimo, Natalie Ringel, Grace Robinson, Olivia Rogers, Miriam Rovin, Meghan Smith, Hannah Stein, Victoria Werth, and Abby Wilson.

"The students have grown so much over the course of the semester," Wininsky said. "Their technique has improved but, more importantly, they are finding their artistic voices and learning what it takes to work collaboratively."\

The performance will also feature a work choreographed by Wininsky herself. This dance, entitled Ecotone, was originally choreographed in 2001 for 11 women. Cited in Dance Magazine as a haunting work, iconic American choreographer Donald McKayle said that the dance took him, "to another world, not human but amphibian." He continued, "It was as if they were on a perilous journey, moving on flippers." Seventeen years later, it has been re-envisioned for 28 dancers.

"I am particularly proud of this year's company of dancers, as well as our Saturday children's matinee," Christopher Rutt, Dance Division Coordinator and Kinesis Co-Artistic Director said. "Our students love the energy of younger kids in the audience and look forward to talking with them after the performance. Few experiences match the pleasure of watching the faces of children at a dance concert. These kids look up to the Kinesis performers."

Media, Speech & Theatre Department Chair Nina Lynn agrees, adding that her own children look forward to the performance every year.

"The children's matinee is so joyous," Lynn said. "I see the Kinesis program as one of the jewels in the Performing Arts Division crown because it combines performance, leadership, and service so beautifully."
