New Trier’s Science Olympiad Team places first at State, earns bid to Nationals

The New Trier High School Science Olympiad Team is headed to Nationals after placing first among 49 high school teams at the State competition on April 21.

After earning 92 points, New Trier received the state champion title and a bid to Nationals on May 19 at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The team competed in 28 events and won six first-place medals, five second-place medals, two third-place medals, one fourth-place medal and three fifth-place medals. The competition was held at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Varsity team members include: Faith Chen, Vikram Duvvur, Joseph Farina, Daniel Hess, Brandon Lee, Allison Liu, Ilana Nazari, Asher Noel, Tommy Okun, Jibriel Saqibuddin, Edward Seol, Karthik Srinivasan, Penelope Tir, Irene Xu, and Jason Yuan.

Competing in trial events were: juniors Samantha Fountain, Justin Gorodetsky, Layla Saqibuddin, and sophomores Anna Arthur, Pranav Doradla, Alexander Naumann, Jae Heon Kim, Jane Rosin, and Jake Vile.

The Science Olympiad coaches are Kate Ferraro, Tony Harper, Alex Howe, Chris Klimkiewicz, Harold Slav and Stephanie Valerio.
