The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program serves English Language Learners (ELLs) at New Trier High School. In any given school year, there are approximately 30-50 ELLs enrolled at New Trier.  They come from countries across the globe—some new to the United States, others who have been attending school in the U.S. for a few years.  In the ESL Program, we assist these students.  We test them as they enter New Trier, and we help create their schedules.  We staff a program of ESL courses in a variety of subjects, as well as monitor their performance and arrange tutors or in-class aides when necessary.  We also assist in communication between their families and the school and provide support to teachers and advisers as needed.
