CORE AND MORE

This semester course emphasizes the importance of a sound body and mind and a lasting sense of well-being. Pilates based exercises are the central conditioning techniques that are practiced throughout the course. The principles of yoga, gyrokinesis and weight training are also integrated into the course work. All of these practices promote mind-body connection as well as core strength, flexibility, range of motion, balance, coordination, fluidity, body alignments, movement efficiency and concentration. When executed safely and correctly, these methods aid in the prevention of injury for active individuals and are often recommended for those recovering from injury. Also incorporated into the class is discussion about the history, philosophy, benefits, fundamentals, and terminology of Pilates. Physioballs, therabands, massage, conscious breathing and guided relaxation will also be integrated into this course.
