Student Assistance Program

Program Overview

The New Trier High School Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a comprehensive model for the delivery of SAP logo SAP logo prevention, intervention and support services for students and their families that are designed to help students achieve personal and academic success.  Promoting and supporting healthy lifestyles, attitudes and behaviors is the goal of all services offered within the New Trier SAP – whether they involve working individually or in group settings with students. The program works collaboratively with numerous school and community groups and organizations to meet its goals.  The Student Assistance “Core Team” provides the structure under which the SAP develops and meets its goals.

The SAP “Core Team” is comprised of three teams that meet weekly to work together to promote and support healthy lifestyles, attitudes and behaviors among NTHS students. Our three teams focus on the areas of prevention, intervention, and support.

Prevention Team - Reviews, plans and implements approaches, programs and services designed to reduce the likelihood that students will become involved in risk-taking behavior.

Intervention Team - Oversees the “Blue Card” process and works to develop strategies, programs and services designed to intervene early when behaviors of concern arise in an effort to refocus student learning & growth.

Support Team - Works to plan, implement and evaluate programs, services and approaches that support positive momentum for healthy student change.
