Homecoming Dance

HOCO Spotlight

Dear Parents/Guardians,

School dances are an important part of the high school experience for many of our students. With the Winnetka Campus Homecoming Dance approaching, I want to share some expectations and guidelines for our school social events.

Student Council and Tri-Ship will host the Homecoming Dance "Sweet Home Chicago" in the main gym at the Winnetka Campus on Saturday, October 5 from 7:30-10:30 p.m. This dance is for sophomores through seniors only. Students must purchase tickets in advance. Tickets will be sold for $20 each beginning Wednesday, September 18 at 8:00 a.m. thru October 2 at 4:00 p.m. Students should buy tickets through the Student Activities link on RevTrak: . We will continue sales in person in the Activities Office, Room W021D on Thursday, October 3 until 4:00 p.m. - cash or check only. Limited sales on Friday, Oct 4 because the Activities Office will be closed for the Spirit Rallies. No sales at the door.

Students bringing a guest from outside New Trier must obtain a Guest Request Form and purchase both their ticket and their guest's ticket in person through the Student Activities Office. All attendees must present their current school ID at check-in the night of the dance. The student's ID is their entrance ticket to this event. There are no printed tickets.

We encourage all students to come to the Homecoming Dance. Students attend the dance individually, with groups of friends, or with dates. Many students are dropped off and picked up by parents, while others take buses and limousines. There is a dress tradition established by students based on their year in school. More information about the dress and dance will be shared with students through their adviser. A great amount of hard work and planning goes into this event to ensure it is an enjoyable evening for all students, and we encourage students to stay at the dance in its entirety.

At dances and other social events, New Trier's priority is to provide a fun and safe environment for our students. We greet students at the door and work with the New Trier Parents' Association chaperones to make sure all students enjoy the dance in a healthy manner. Students may enter at 7:30 p.m. using entrance the main Gates Gym doors on Essex Road. ADA entry is accessible using the entrance near the tennis court, E26 off Essex Road. Students arriving after 9:00 p.m. will not be admitted. New Trier supervisors will require random students to take a breathalyzer test; bags and vehicles may also be searched. Students will not be allowed to remain in buses, limousines, or cars in lieu of entering the dance. The Peso Gym will offer light refreshments for students, as well as some activities, video game stations, and a photo booth so students can capture the moment with their friends.

If a student comes to a dance under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, we will call the student's parents/guardians and ask that they come to the dance to pick up their son or daughter. Students will face disciplinary action as outlined in the Student Guidebook. We want students to know our procedures and expectations so that our guidelines act as a deterrent.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and thank you for helping to make this a great school year!
