Two New Trier students were named 2020 YoungArts winners, a recognition given to the nation's most accomplished young artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts. Ashley Kim was named a Merit winner for Classical Music/Piano, and Will Ryan III was named a Merit winner for Voice/Jazz.
Selected from a competitive pool of applications and representing artists from across the country, YoungArts winners gain access to one of the most comprehensive programs for emerging artists in the United States, offering financial, professional and artistic development opportunities over the course of their careers. Representing the top 10 percent of applications, the winners are selected through a blind adjudication process conducted by an independent panel of highly accomplished artists.
Of each year's winners, some are awarded for excellence in multiple disciplines at various levels. Winners are named Finalists, the organization's highest honor, Honorable Mention and Merit winners.
Though the YoungArts New York regional event that Ryan and Kim were to attend in April has been canceled in accordance with current recommended guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), New Trier High School is proud to have the talented young artists representing our district. The National YoungArts Foundation has committed to supporting them and their work through additional opportunities with YoungArts including residencies, microgrants and their online portal for alumni.
