Seniors display artwork, receive awards in Visual Art Juried Exhibition

New Trier seniors and their families attended an opening reception and awards presentation for the Senior Visual Arts Juried Exhibition on March 14 at New Trier High School.

This annual show provides senior high school art students the opportunity to share their body of artwork with the school and community. It is open now until Thursday, March 23, at the Winnetka Campus in the Lower Level Foyer, Building W.

Senior Sandy Guenther received the Nancy Joyce Murray Award provided by Dick Blick of Evanston. Guenther will be asked to gift New Trier one artwork for permanent display in the school.

Six students received Distinction Awards, including Lily Freemond, David Feld, Olivia DeWitt, Emma Costello, Alex Brooks and David Lee. Each Distinction Award included a gift card donated by Dick Blick. Awardees were chosen by two outside jurors: Maggie Meiners, a fine art photographer and gallery director at PLATFORM Community Art Space and Martha Rushman, a metal artist, curator at Vivid Art Gallery and former art teacher in the Washington, D.C. public schools.

The North Shore Arts League also brings in two jurors for their annual awards. During the evening reception, Linda Nelson, president of the North Shore Art League, shared the award recipients. Seniors Giulia Liebovich and Lily Freemond received scholarships from the Sanfred & Nancy Koltun Scholarship fund. Ethan Caruso and Amanda Stiffler received scholarships from the Paul Weinger Memorial Scholarship fund.
