Digital Photography: Explorations

0.5 MAJOR CREDIT AT LEVEL 9 / .25 ELECTIVE CREDIT
Have you ever wondered what all the buttons on a digital camera do? Or how you can take your photography to the next level? In this one-semester or yearlong digital photography course, students will get to know the digital camera (DSLR) while investigating conceptual ideas and photographic techniques used in the professional photography industry. Students will learn how to control and sculpt with natural and artificial light to create moody imagery, freeze action, photograph your friends and family or up your selfie game. Students will also learn how to take what they have learned in the class and apply it to their cell-phonography. Students will edit in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop and learn to print and present their finished works of art professionally and thoughtfully. Individual and collaborative projects will be encouraged. Students will also explore AI literacy by examining how the embedded AI-generated tools in Adobe software influence creative workflows, decision-making, and ethical art practices. Students may be required to purchase a photo kit. This course may be repeated to create a year-long experience or paired with another semester class. This course fulfills one semester of the graduation requirement for fine and/or practical arts.
