Photographic storytelling can evoke emotion, effect change, be thought-provoking, or simply create a visual record of a moment in time. In this one-semester or yearlong digital photography course, students will explore the nuances of different photographic styles including: photographic essays, documentary photography, street photography, and photojournalism. Students will engage in project-based investigations to chronicle events connecting them to their everyday lives and current environment. Students will be introduced to and hold discussions about historical and contemporary visual culture and how it relates to photographic storytelling in the media and the world of fine art photography. Individual and collaborative projects will be encouraged. Students will also explore AI literacy by examining how the embedded AI-generated tools in Adobe software influence creative workflows, decision-making, and ethical art practices. Students may be required to purchase a photo kit. This course may be repeated to create a year-long experience or paired with another semester class. This course fulfills one semester of the graduation requirement for fine and/or practical arts.
