National Shakespeare Competition

National Shakespeare Competition

To audition, students must prepare and perform (memorized) a Shakespeare monologue as well as a Sonnet.  Both pieces MUST be selected from the handbook of official monologues and sonnets and may NOT be adjusted in any way. Links to the monologue and sonnet handbooks, as well as all competition rules, are attached below and can also be found on the Performing Arts webpage, the Music & Theatre webpage, or by contacting Ms. Kirsch at kirschh@nths.net.

Monologue and Sonnet performances should be recorded (using your phone or ipad works perfectly) and uploaded to this Google form no later than January 21, 2026.

The student who is selected as the NT representative will work with the Theatre faculty to further prepare their pieces for the regional competition and re-film if necessary. Their final video performance will then be uploaded to the regional competition. The winner of the regional competition will travel to New York City Saturday, April 25 through Monday, April 27, 2026 for a weekend that will culminate in the national finals, performing live at Lincoln Center.
