New Trier surges past Hinsdale Central in rematch of state title game

After battling to a 4-4 tie, the defense shuts out the Red Devils for the last 9:53 of the half and the offense pours on six goals to take a 10-4 lead and the Trevs never look back, winning 15-10 over Hinsdale Central.

New Trier played a complete game, winning the first nine draws (winning 19-8 during the game) and looked to be in command of the game, but the Red Devils snuck back into the game. Audrey Rudolph scored in the first thirty seconds and Mia Shane's beautiful feed to Hana Asghri got the Trevs up 2-0 in the first minute.

Hinsdale did not back down and tied the game 2-2 behind senior Angie Conley. The Trevs answered back with sophomore attacker Sonja Keneally scoring when Rudloph did her on a cut off the elbow to make it 3-2. Asghari struck again on a feed by Kennedy Meier. But Hinsdale Central again came back to tie the game at 4-4.

That's when the defense, behind an amazing effort by Allie Trukenbrod, Anna Seftenberg, Grace Mawicke and Izzy Resnick shut down a very strong offense.

Keneally expoded for two more goals to get a career high hat trick, one on an assist from Ava Diamond from behind when she again cut off the elbow. Rudolph scored on a great assist by Claire Ratke, who then found Meier cutting to goal. Meier scored again when she got her own rebound off a free position to pop the ball into the net to make it 9-4.

After another tough draw control by Ellie Bornhoeft, with the clock winding down, Rudloph passed to Addie Shevitz who whizzed the ball past the goalie with two seconds on the clock to make it 10-4.

New Trier didn't let up, as Shevitz drove and dumped the ball to Rudolph to increase the lead to 11-4 in the first minute of the second half for Rudoph to get a hat trick. Asghari drove from the top to score her own hat trick at 22:05 to make it 12-4.

Hinsdale kept fighting and scored a pair of goals to make it 12-6 before Shevitz scored twice to stop their momentum. The Red Devils again fought back scoring four unanswered goals to make it 14-10.

Shevitz rounded out the scoring at 1:32 with a drive to the goal from the top past three Red Devil defenders to finish the scoring.

Rudolph finished with seven draw controls, Meier six and Bornhoeft four. Rudolph led the team with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Shevitz had four goals. Ratke added two assists. Rudolph had three goals and two assists. Keneally and Asghari each had three goals also. Meier added two goals. Patyon Subeck had six saves.
