Explosive finish to the first half propels New Trier past Oak Park River Forest

Trailing 6-5 with five minutes left in the half, the Trevians called timeout and then came out and made a statement, scoring six goals to go up 11-6, and then played a strong second half to defeat a very talented Oak Park team 21-8.

Hanna Simon scored a hat trick for the Huskies to tie the game at 3-3, and both teams traded goals until Hana Asghari made a beautiful feed from behind the goal to Claire Ratke to tie the game 6-6. After a save by Payton Subeck, on the next possession it was Ratke passing to a cutting Asghari to give the Trevians the lead and they didn't look back. Mia Shane fed to Addie Shevitz for a goal at 2:04, then Ratke, Ava Diamond and Kennedy Meier all scored in the last minute of the half for New Trier to pull away.

The defense not only shut down Simon, they only allowed two second half goals. Maddy Rewey, Meghan Riley, Izzy Resnick, Holly Smith and Ellie Bornhoeft all caused turnovers to help the Trevs control possession. The draw team of Anna Seftenberg, Meier and Bornhoeft combined for 14 draw controls, eight by Meier. Smith came in and grabbed five herself, and Courtney Laden had three.

The attack was led by Ratke, who had a season high four goals and two assists. Shevitz also had four goals. Diamond, Asghari and Meier all had hat tricks. Sonja Keneally added two goals and an assist.
