Tremendous defensive effort stops the Scouts

New Trier knew they would need to step up to stop a very strong Lake Forest attack, and the defense rose to challenge, holding the Scouts to only one second half goal in a 14-4 win in the season finale.

The defense was led by Anna Seftenberg, Grace Mawicke, Maddie Rewey, Izzy Resnick, Ellie Bornhoeft, Kennedy Meier and Allie Trukenbrod. Trukenbrod marked out one of the top attackers in the state, Megan Rocklein, and held her to one goal on the evening. The defense caused five turnovers and Payton Subeck had seven saves and then Megan Gallagher came for the last fifteen minutes and had two saves.

The offense was led by Addie Shevitz, who had four goals and an assist, and sophomore Sonja Keneally, who scored four goals in her first career start. Claire Ratke had three assists and a goal, as did Meier. Ava Diamond, Bornhoeft, Courtney Laden and Mia Shane also contributed to the scoring.

It was a special evening, as the Trevians had staff appreciation night to recognize and thank teachers and staff members that support our student athletes. It was also an emotional night, as New Trier had a moment of silence to honor and remember Laura Van Horn, a class of 2012 graduate who passed away last week. Laura was a goalie for three years for the Trevs, then went on to play at Denision. She was living in Denver, teaching math and coaching youth lacrosse. Laura loved lacrosse, she loved wearing the Trevian jersey and she was loved by her teammates. She will be remembered as a caring teammate and a tremendous friend.
