Strong second half lifts Trevs over Red Devils

On a frigid night in Northfield, New Trier led 5-4 at half, and Hinsdale Central scored with 21:17 left in the game to tie it up. But the Trevs defense shutout the Red Devils for the rest of the game as the offense scored six unanswered goals for a 11-5 win.

The Trevs struggled against a very determined and athletic Hinsdale Central team, turning the ball over seven times in the first half and only taking four shots in the first 20 minutes of the game. The draw team of Audrey Rudolph, Brooke Ross and Kennedy Meier stepped up and won 12 of the 18 draws and the defense and ride forced eight turnovers to give New Trier the momentum and ball possession they needed. 

Both teams traded goals throughout the first half, then in the last two minutes of the half down 4-3, Claire Ratke scored on a great dodge above the 12 meter to drive and score at 1:53. Meier won the ensuing draw and raced down the field to set up the attack. After Addie Shevitz drew a double team and passed the ball to Meier, Meier feed to Grace Curry cutting off the elbow, who caught the ball, then stopped and spun around and popped the ball in the bottom corner to give the Trevs the lead 5-4 with 1:13 left in the half.

In the second half, the defense stiffened, only allowing four shots, and Kate Keller made three big saves, including a save on a wide open look when the Trevs were playing seven versus six because of a yellow card. Tied 5-5, Rudolph had a big drive from the top and beat the goalie to give New Trier the lead at 17:01. Ross won the next draw, and Shevitz scored after a roll dodge and drive down the middle of the eight to make it 7-5 with 14:35 left. After Grace Curry forced a turnover the the ride, Mia Shane fed to Emma Curry who was cutting around the crease for a beautiful goal at 11:27. Shevitz would score again as she dodged past two defenders for her third goal of the game at 8:58. Grace Curry would score on a free position shot at the 4:25 mark, then after Meier won another draw, Shevitz rolled the crease to score with 2:48 left.

Rudolph and Shevtiz each had two big caused tunrovers on the ride. Rudolph also added three gound balls. Meier led the Trevs with six draw controls. Shevitz led all scoreres with four goals, Grace Curry had three goals. Keller finished with five saves.
