GUIDED ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (GAP)

The Guided Assistance Program (GAP) supports students in developing executive functioning skills, with a focus on time management, self-advocacy, and study strategies. Students work individually or in small groups with a GAP teacher to strengthen identified skills and complete informal assessments to build a personalized learning profile.

At the Winnetka Campus, students typically meet with a specially trained GAP teacher two to three periods each week. At the Northfield Campus, students may meet up to five periods each week. Through this instruction, students learn to chart and monitor their progress, plan and prioritize assignments, prepare effectively for tests and quizzes, and understand how their learning style influences academic success.Referral to GAP occurs through a Multi-

Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) meeting, which includes the adviser chair, MTSS coach, school psychologist, social worker, and the student’s adviser. Students are most successful in GAP when they are engaged and committed to learning new strategies that support their academic growth.
