Trevs have great showing in DC

Not every team gets the opportunity to travel and compete against some of the top competition in the country, and the Trevs proved they could play at with the best. New Trier won two games, and lost one game by a goal, and their last game in overtime.

After defeating Virginia schools South County 20-4 and Independence 18-5 on Saturday, the Trevs faced St. Paul VI on Sunday and rallied back down three but fell short 11-10. On Monday, against  the #16 ranked team in the country by USA Lacrosse Magazine, Georgetown Visitation, New Trier again was down 11-8 with five minutes left, and rallied back to tie the game 11-11 with goals by Audrey Rudolph, a great feed by Claire Ratke to Addie Shevitz, and then with eleven seconds left in the game, Courtney Laden scored to force overtime. Despite winning the draw in overtime, the Cubs forced a turnover and scored on their next possession.

The heart and effort the team displayed was tremendous. Some highlights from the weekend.

On Saturday against South County, senior Kennedy Meier had a season high nine draw controls and four goals. Against Independence, 11 different players scored, including hat tricks by Rudolph, Meier and Shevitz. Sophomore middie Ellie Bornhoeft had eight draw controls. The defense had three interceptions and was led by Anna Seftenberg with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Against St. Paul VI, junior goalie Payton Subeck had 15 saves, one short of tying the record for most saves in a single game in New Trier history. Sophomore midfielder Holly Smith came in and got four draw controls and helped the Trevs win eight in the second half.

Against Georgetown Visitation, Meier had four goals, Rudolph had three goals.
