Titans and Trevians play for a greater cause in cancer awareness game

On a beautiful night in Glenview, the focus was not just on playing a lacrosse game, but honoring family, friends and loved ones in the Trevs and Titans annual cancer awareness game.

Glenbrook South head coach Tom Rosenbaum made it a priority to have each player write down the name of a person they were playing for in the game, to honor their fight against cancer. New Trier alum Lindsey Sibell, who has battled cancer in her life, came back from school at Indiana University to give all of the Trevian players a wristband and talk about the Hardy Strong foundation, that her friend's family started when Justin Hardy passed away after battling stomach cancer. Both teams were raising awareness and money for the foundation.

On the field, both teams played with tremendous determination and heart. The Trevians had a great team effort, especially on offense, controlling the tempo and having poise and patience to defeat Glenbrook South 17-0. The Titans are a team on the rise, starting seven freshman and rebuilding a program that one challenged New Trier in the IHSA state playoffs and forced a tie before New Trier won 15-14. 

It was a total team effort for New Trier with 13 different players contributing toward the scoring. Holly Smith led the team with three ground balls, Logan Savarie and Meg Canmann lead the team with two caused turnovers on the ride and Matty Meier helped lead the attack with great cuts and leadership and had two assists, along with leadership by Hana Asghari (two goals and two assists), Sonja Keneally (two goals) and Claire Ratke (two goals and an assist).
