Trevs draw up the right plan to defeat the Scouts

New Trier's draw team won 24 of the 30 draws to spark fast break goals and gain valuable time of possession to defeat a very strong Lake Forest team 17-11 in the regular season finale.

The highlight of the evening was the draw team, coached by assistant coach Carli Harpel. Led by 18 draw controls by Kennedy Meier, just one short of single game record for most draw controls in a game in school history, the Trevs dominated the circle. Rudloph, Ross, Curry and Trukenbrod all gained the ball for the Trevs. Meier actually passed her sister Charley on the all time career leader list, and Kennedy now has 188 draws, third most all time in school history.

The Scouts feature a very explosive attack, and they showed how talented they were by never backing down. Despite trailing by 9-1 and 14-5, Lake Forest kept attacking and fighting. The Scouts also went on a three goal run to made it 15-9 with 12:34 left. But after a timeout, the defense settled in and only allowed one goal in the last twelve minutes.

The defense forced five turnovers, led by Brooke Ross, Izzy Resnick, Allie Trukenbrod and Anna Seftenberg. Lily Wallace directed the defense to limit no fast break goals all night as Lake Forest raced down the field to set up their attack. On the ride, Audrey Rudolph, Addie Shevitz, Grace Curry and Emma Curry all made big plays with fierce pressure on the ball to force five turnovers also.

After Kate Kaptrosky scored on a free position shot for the Scouts at 23:15, the Trevians answered with nine straight goals. New Trier used the draw controls to push the ball and score on fast breaks. In the first half, the Trevs scored three goals in under a minute. Meier, Grace Curry and Claire Ratke all tallied goals from 18:55-17:56. Then in the second half, the Trevs scored three goals in under 30 seconds behind three draw controls by Meier. Shevitz fed to Emma Curry, Ratke fed to Grace Curry, and then Rudolph to Ratke, all on fast breaks from 22:27-22:08.

Ratke led the Trevs with three assists. Aside from Meier's career night, senior Grace Curry had two assists and scored her second goal at 22:18 to give her 100 goals for her career.

Lake Forest's Caroline Keil finished the night with a game high six goals.
