Trevs give great defensive effort but fall to Ramblers in Sectional Final

Despite great defense against one of the top teams in the Midwest, New Trier wasn't able to overcome a two goal deficit late in the game and lost 8-5 to Loyola.

It was a defensive battle in the first half, with the score 2-1 until 4:23 left in the half when Loyola's Grace Dwyer scored on a free position shot to make it 3-1 at half. Senior Addie Shevitz drew a double and dumped to senior Kennedy Meier for the Trevians first goal of the game.

In the second half, Anna Seftenberg led the defense that stiffened and didn't allow a goal for almost nine minutes, then held the Ramblers to only one goal in the last 14 minutes to keep the Trevians in the game. Seftenberg led New Trier with five ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Hana Asghari got the Trevs on the board in the second half, then Shevitz tallied a couple goals to make it 6-4, and Meier scored on a free position shot to make it 6-5 at 9:51. Loyola's Emma Burke scored at 7:41 on a free position to make it 7-5.

The Trevians had several good looks on attack, but Tia Boyle had some nice saves for the Ramblers, and New Trier couldn't take advantage of some man up situations with a couple costly turnovers.

"Assistant coach Kate Viviano had the defense ready to play and this team fought hard for the entire game, especially playing for Audrey Rudolph who is injured and unable to play," said head coach Pete Collins, "We are so proud of this senior class, they have left a great legacy on the culture of our program."
