Benet wins in overtime over Trevs

After trailing 4-1 at half, New Trier rallied back to make it 5-4, but gave up a late goal with 1:32 left in the game. Benet took that momentum and won the draw and scored to win the game.

After a goal was called off when the score was 1-1 for New Trier, the Redwings, led by Notre Dame recruit Shannon Earley went on a three goal run to go up 4-1. In the third quarter, the New Trier defense, led by Allie Trukenbrod, Madison Rewey, Meg Riley, Caroline Bender and goalie Meg Gallagher shutout the Redwings. A save by Gallagher led to a nice assist by Ellie Bornhoeft to Avery Anderson to start a run for the Trevs. Then Sonja Keneally scored her second goal when Holly Smith passed to her as she posted up in the 8 meter. A caused turnover on transition by Smith led Smith hitting Anderson to tie the game with 1:10 left in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Claire Ratke fed to Hana Asghari at 10:12 and the Trevs took the lead 5-4. Solid defense by the Trevians held the Redwings scoreless until late in the game. The Trevs had some good looks on attack and ran down the clock, but the Redwings got the ball back and after a yellow card, scored with 1:32 left.

In overtime, the Redwings won the draw and Early scored on a drive with a nice outside shot.
