Trevs fall in four overtimes in sectional final

In one of the most exciting games between these two schools, New Trier rallied down 4-1 to tie the game, and then led 9-7 in the fourth quarter, before falling in four overtimes to Loyola 10-9.

Trailing 4-1, Ellie Bornhoeft and Holly Smith scored for the Trevs and senior Hana Asghari scored twice, leading the Trevs offense back to tie the game 4-4 with seven seconds left in the first quarter. Ashgari then had a hat trick in the second quarter, putting New Trier up 7-5.

The defense was led by goalie Megan Gallagher, who had 18 saves in the game, and Meg Riley who had four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Allie Trukenbrod, Holly Smith, and Emma Riley also had big caused turnovers to help the Trevs hold the Ramblers offense to two goals in the second and third quarters. New Trier led 7-6 going into the fourth.

Claire Ratke scored on a beautiful crease roll and Asghari scored her sixth goal of the game with 5:48 left to put the Trevs up 9-7.

Loyola forced a big turnover late in the fourth quarter and scored, and then won the ensuing draw to score twice in 11 seconds and tie the game 9-9 with 2:10 left.

Each team had possessions in each overtime, but Gallagher held off several Rambler free position shots. In the fourth overtime, Loyola took advantage of a yellow card and scored with the player advantage.
