Trevs defense denies the Dukes

The Trevs defense held York to two second half goals to enable New Trier to pull away with a 14-7 win.

Kennedy Meier won the opening draw, and the Trevs controlled the ball for the first three minutes of game, but couldn't get on the board. Lily Wallace and Meier both nice stick checks to cause turnovers to help the offense have several good looks, but New Trier was denied on their first five shots by York's Marina Pizczar.

Bella Swanson got the Duke's on the board first at 16:46 to take the lead 1-0. But the Trevs answered back when Addie Shevitz fed to Emma Curry for a goal at 15:33. Both teams would trade goals to make it 3-3.

That's when Kate Keller made a nice save and then took off out of the cage and passed to Meier, who connected with Grace Curry, who raced down the field on the fast break to goal, drawing Emma Curry's defender and making a back door feed to Emma for the goal at 4:55. Hana Asghari, Grace Curry and Meier would follow with goals, as the Trevs pulled away 7-3 with 2:19 left. York answered back with gaols by Swanson and Ellie Duhig, and Shevitz also scored to make it 8-5 at half.

The Dukes came out strong, winning the draw and racing down to score to make it 8-6 34 seconds into the half. After York won the draw, Keller made another save, and this time passed out to Audrey Rudolph who raced 70 yards past six defenders to bury her shot for a 9-6 lead. The defense stepped up and held the Dukes scoreless for the next 15 minutes. Shevitz and Meier added goals, then Mia Shane made a beautiful feed to Rudolph to make it 12-6 with 6:38 left. York scored on a free position and then Ava Diamond answered by scoring a free position at 4:57. Claire Ratke had an assist to Emma Curry to finish the scoring at 2:23.

The Trevs forced nine turnovers and controlled 13 ground balls to control most of the tempo of the second half. Keller finished up with eight saves. Meier, Anna Seftenberg and Wallace each had two caused turnovers on defense. Rudolph led the Trevs with five draw controls. Emma Curry and Meier each had a hat trick. Shevitz, Rudolph and Grace Curry each had two goals.
